DIXFIELD — This summer, the Ludden Memorial Library will again be taking part in the Maine State Library’s collaborative reading program theme “Dream Big, READ!” The library will be decorated in this theme for the duration of the program, which begins on June 29 and runs through July 31. This is an excellent way for all area children to keep their reading skills up during the summer months. Come into the library to sign up.

This year many local businesses are supporting efforts to get kids reading. Frosty Delite Ice Cream Shop in Mexico, Subway Sandwich Shop of Mexico and the Mexico Pizza Hut are donating coupons for free ice cream, kids meals and pizza. The Big Adventure Park in Bethel is donating coupons for a free one-hour golf/water slide package as incentives to help the children reach their reading goals each week.

The children will keep track of their reading progress with special stickers and reading charts. “Dream Big, READ!” T-shirts will be given when the children reach their reading goal for the first week, and the above-mentioned coupons for subsequent weeks of reading.

There will also be lots of fun, entertaining and educational children’s programs lined up on a weekly basis. During the closing program on July 31 the reading certificates will be given out. There will also be a special door prize raffle for all children who have read during the program. Cake and punch will be served.
