Moxie Boy to have book signing at Kennebec’s in Lisbon Falls

LISBON FALLS — James Jansson will sign copies of his new book, “Moxie Time Line,” on Friday, July 13, at the Kennebec Fruit Co. store, on the first day of this year’s Moxie Fest.

The book signing will take place from noon to 4 p.m.

“The Moxie Time Line” is a brief, up-to-date, outline of the history of Moxie soda and its surrounding mystique. The book contains many color photographs of recent people and events in the world of Moxie soda. The book’s bibliography lists all of the books ever written about Moxie.

Jansson has portrayed the Moxie Boy in the Moxie Festival Parade since 2002. The Moxie Boy is an advertisement figure used by the Moxie Company since 1907 and still appears on Moxie’s cans and bottles today. Jansson has appeared on WGME Channel 13 news and nationally on the Food Network’s “Unwrapped Retro” program dressed as the Moxie Boy.

Jansson’s Moxie Boy character, sometimes referred to as the “Moxie Doctor,”(because of his white jacket) is mentioned in Stephen King’s novel titled “11/22/63” published in 2011. King calls him the “Moxie Doc.”

Jansson’s artwork was the cover art for Maine author Jim Baumer’s book titled “Moxietown,” which was published in 2008.

Jansson is a life member and historian of the New England Moxie Congress which will be having its annual meeting at the Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, July 15. This event is open to the public.

The Kennebec Fruit Company store, known by many as the “House of Moxie,” is located in Lisbon Falls on the corner of Route 196 and Main Street (Route 125).
