LEWISTON — LEAP will offer a six-week summer program running from July 2 through Aug. 10 to all Lewiston students in grades seven through 12. Programming will occur at Tree Street Youth Center, 144 Howe St., Monday through Friday, 12:30 to 4 p.m.

The objective of LEAP summer programming is to provide enrichment activities that nurture creativity and foster improved critical thinking skills by pulling from and expanding upon knowledge gained during the academic year.

LEAP programming not only works to reduce summer learning loss, but provides students fun and interactive ways to learn and grow. LEAP summer programming prevents detrimental youth behavior by providing students with resources to improve their academic skills, fostering more productive and successful students while diminishing the learning gap.

LEAP offers students a wide array of activities, fun games and quality time with friends and supportive mentors. Students will have the opportunity to engage in leadership, mentorship and team building activities. LEAP programming hosts both girls and boy leadership programming, and activities to improve communication and cultivate collaboration.

Proposed programming for LEAP summer camp tentatively includes college and career prep, technology introduction workshops, literacy groups, dance, fine arts, health and wellness workshops, community gardening, theater, carpentry and athletic skills clinics. LEAP will also offer an unique “Step Up” program for incoming seventh- and ninth-graders.

Registration is open to all Lewiston middle and high school students. Registration packets are available at L/A Arts, 221 Lisbon St., at Tree Street Youth Center, 144 Howe St., or can be downloaded at www.leapmaine.org. Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis with limited space available.
