I have just returned from a trip to Kansas. I had some troubles with Homeland Security officials at the Kansas airport because it seems my state-issued ID card doesn’t have an expiration date. I got the card more than 10 years ago.

After checking the color of my eyes, I was finally allowed through and given a boarding pass.

That was the second time I had that problem trying to get out of Kansas. Security officials never had a problem with my identification when I went to New York after 9/11.

Such is life today.
