FARMINGTON — Six Franklin Memorial Hospital nurses were recently recognized by nursing leaders and peers by being nominated for the organization’s first Excellence in Nursing Award.

The award was established to recognize contributions by FMH nurses that support the advancement of nursing.

Nominees included Miriah McKenna, RN, BSN, Emergency Department; Mary Sennott, RN, Intensive Care Unit; Michelle Sweetser, BSN, Intensive Care Unit; Theresa Richard, RN, BSN, Med Surg Unit; Megan Adams, RN, Franklin Health Internal Medicine; and Jeannine Lake, RN, Day Surgery, Clinical Diabetes Educator.

Prior to the award presentation, attendees enjoyed a social hour with entertainment by Native Oak and light refreshments.

Along with the nominees, the individuals who took the time to nominate a nurse were recognized before the winner was announced.

At the conclusion of the award’s ceremony, Megan Adams was named as the award recipient. Twice nominated, by Karen Yingling, professional practice coordinator, as well as Kendra Newton and Susan Theiss of Franklin Health Internal Medicine, Adams was cited for improving nursing practice by developing the role of the nurse as an adjunct to care support, to provide chronic disease education, support, and self management in primary care practices. She was responsible for developing the prototype for the nurse-directed Medicare Wellness Exam: scheduling patients for a nurse visit to review health history, identify risks, provide education, and create an action-based health maintenance plan.
