SUN CITY, Ariz. — Leo L. Lalemand, 80, of Sun City, Ariz., died Wednesday, June 19, at Trillium Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1931, the son of Joseph and Hermenie (Daigle) Lalemand in Lewiston, and lived in Auburn most of life.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Worchester. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years until he retired and traveled the United States. He settled in Arizona where he became a championship lawn bowler.

He greatly enjoyed playing the spoons at the early Franco Festival in Kennedy Park, and continued playing and entertaining throughout his life. He was a skilled wood craftsman and created many pieces of furniture for his family.

He loved spending time with friends and family. During every visit to Maine, he would make a trip to Sam’s Italian Sandwich shops.

He is survived by his companion, Doris Vanderpoole, and her daughter, Debbie Chapman, of Sun City, Ariz.; two daughters, Sandra Godin and her husband, Ray, of Minot, and Shari Boyce and her companion, Dan Campbell, of Auburn; two sons, Leo “Hank” Lalemand and his wife, Maryanne, of Waynesville, N.C., and Brian Lalemand and his wife, Tammy, of Minot; 10 grandchildren, Amy Vaillancourt and her husband, Greg, of Minot, Andrew Davis and his wife, Jennifer of Minot, Jeff Boyce and his wife, Jennifer, of Mechanic Falls, Jan Boyce of Auburn, Cassandra and Garret Lalemand of Minot, Hannah Rice and her husband, Chuck, of Woodfin, N.C., and Samuel, Frankie and Lydia Lalemand of Waynesville, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Ray and her husband, Ernie, of Poland Spring; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother and father; brothers, Ralph and Morris Lalemand; and sisters, Clemance Blanchette, Cecile LaPointe and Alice Shaw.
