I offer this in response to Thomas Shields’ letter of June 19, headlined “Where are the answers?”

When I had finished reading Dr. Shields’ letter, I was left with the feeling that I had just watched a Fox News broadcast (“the no-spin” network).

The implication of each question is that the Democrats are doing something unpatriotic when, in fact, if Dr. Shields or anyone would do the research and find the true facts, the questions become the bias for which they were intended.

I would ask the following questions of Dr. Shields:

Is he really looking for honest answers?

Why are we trying to make it more difficult for people to vote? How many elections have been held without the benefit of photography?

Does Dr. Shields know the definition of the word “independent”?

Does Dr. Shields feel that elected officials should declare that the only business they are resolved to do is making sure the standing president is not re-elected?

Does Dr. Shields understand that the strength of the United States is based on a multi-party system?

I enjoy my status as an independent. Early in my life, I realized that the people I vote for must be honest people with true character and integrity. The party they belong to doesn’t matter, as they are going to be doing the people’s work.
