It has been said that where a student is taught is equally as important as what they are taught. That is not the case at Lewiston Middle School.

Have you ever been in a classroom in which you are surrounded by the constant clanging of radiators? During the winter, it is only natural for teachers to turn up the heat. At LMS, when the heat is turned up too high, the heaters get too hot to even stand near, or they start to make a distracting clanging noise.

If we are trying to give a presentation, it is next to impossible to hear the speaker. I am sure that my classmates would agree that it would be great to have full concentration on a test.

On a hot day, it would be beneficial to open a window to let in a breeze. At LMS, the windows are just too heavy for most students or teachers to open. Even if you do get a window open, it just slides back down. That makes an open window dangerous to anyone nearby.

It is nothing new for a teacher to write directions or assignments on a whiteboard. At LMS, we don’t have those boards. Our teachers give us directions on a board that is used in showers, or old chalkboards. Students and teachers are allergic to dust, and just tired of failing to clean our “white boards.”

Could you please consider renovating our classrooms?
