RUMFORD — Responding to concerns brought to selectmen by residents, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Thursday night that Congress Street will be paved this week, weather permitting.
Spring rains have delayed previous plans to repave sections that were removed to allow overdue routine maintenance by the Water District to replace buried valves and prevent future breaks. The sites were then refilled with dirt and gravel.
Additionally, sections of Swain and Isthmus roads damaged from Tropical Storm Irene last summer are also to be repaved.
“So we should see that work next week, but again, I know we’re expecting some rain, so it’s all weather related,” Puiia said Thursday.
In other business, the municipal building will close at noon Friday, June 29, so officials can finalize town business and close out the fiscal-year books, Puiia said.
Selectmen, however, are to meet in Puiia’s office at 4 p.m. June 29 to sign the final warrant.
