LEWISTON — Androscoggin Bank recently announced the recipients of two Impact Grants totaling $8,000 as a part of the Bank’s MainStreet Foundation grant program: St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and Scout Troop 121.

MainStreet Foundation grants are provided for local organizations that foster the development of and support the welfare of young people.

A $5,000 grant was given to the Lots To Gardens Youth Leadership Programs, which are run by SMRMC’s Nutrition Center of Maine, based in Lewiston. The leadership programs include seasonal youth gardener and youth internship programs. These programs provide meaningful work for youth who face challenges in finding employment. The programs also teach job prep awareness, how to create positive change in the community, how to garden and cook healthy food.

Also, a $3,000 grant was given to Boy Scout Troop 121, based in Auburn. The grant will be used to purchase camping equipment for this new troop. The troop was created to help give boys with special physical, mental and emotional challenges the opportunity for success in a safe Scouting environment that builds character, encourages citizenship, teaches life skills and develops personal fitness.

Grant applications are reviewed three times a year, in February, May and November. This year, there will be a special review session in August, with an application deadline of July 15th.
