FARMINGTON — Franklin County sheriff’s deputies plan more patrols and roadblocks to check for impaired drivers this summer.

“We will accomplish this through saturated patrols and traffic safety checkpoints,” Deputy Nathan Reid said in a release.

The Sheriff’s Department has received a grant of about $2,900 from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety for impaired driving enforcement. The grant period is July 1 through Sept. 3.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Department handled 31 traffic crashes in 2011 in which alcohol was a contributing factor, Reid said.
