This is in response to the letter from Marie Fields (June 17) about people who ignore signs.

I recently went on a bus trip to the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt. While taking a walk around the property, we came to a family cemetery with a fence around it and a “private” sign hanging on a rope across the gate. There were three family graves there that were cared for with love.

To my astonishment, one of the women from the bus had removed the rope and gone inside and, naturally, others followed. I spoke to one man that the private sign meant just that but all he could say is that his wife had done it and talk to her.

To answer Fields’ question about why people do it, she mentioned that some people have no heart or out of ignorance. All of the above apply, but no respect and ignorance is at the top of my list.
