JAY — Selectmen recently voted to approve the purchase of a new excavator for the s Public Works Department.

Selectmen on June 18 approved the purchase of a 2012 JCB excavator for $99,140.80, including trade-in, Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Monday. The money was included in the department’s capital improvement budget. The excavator being traded in is more than 10 years old.

Cushman also said Monday that she reported to selectmen that a former three-story apartment building at 24 Jewell St., which burned in a fire in 2011, has been taken down and owners are working on the lot.

The next selectmen’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the Town Office.
