FALMOUTH — Biologists at Biodiversity Research Institute in partnership with the Town of Falmouth Conservation Commission are hosting the first ever BioBlitz at River Point Conservation Area on June 29 and 30. A BioBlitz is an organized effort to identify all the plants and animals on a particular site over a 24-hour period. Experts and volunteer naturalists will conduct mammal, reptile and amphibian surveys, plant and wildflower walks, butterfly and insect observations and bird banding demonstrations.

The goal for this year’s BioBlitz is to gather information about the resident flora and fauna at River Point. This information will eventually be used to help inform the management plan for the property. BioBlitz is intended to be an educational event, acquainting the public with the biodiversity that surrounds us and on which we are so dependent. Activities are open to the public. Festivities begin Friday June 29, from 8:30 to 10 p.m. and continue on Saturday, June 30, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

River Point Conservation Area is adjacent to the Falmouth Crossing Shopping Center, over the wooden footbridge bridge to the right of Hannaford’s. For more information visit www.briloon.org/bioblitz. To volunteer on a species identification team, contact Bob Shafto at [email protected].
