FARMINGTON — Selectmen accepted a gift Tuesday from a resident who wants to see more lights added to the bandstand at Meetinghouse Park.
When Old Crow Band members had trouble seeing their sheet music during their Monday night concerts, John Edgerly decided the bandstand needed better lighting.
“It’s something I’d like to see done professionally and done well, and I’m willing to do that,” he told board members.
The lighting isn’t good for anyone doing anything, he said Wednesday. He wants to make it right. He has left the details up to the town and is willing to pay for it “just to get it done,” he said.
The town officials met with electricians. The ceiling lights in the bandstand are fine, but they feel there should be more of them, Town Manager Richard Davis said Wednesday. He expected the work to be done soon.
The lighting was upgraded a few years ago but without the input of a lighting specialist, Davis told the board.
Better lighting is also needed for security, Davis said.
The board thanked Edgerly for his donation to the town and accepted the gift.
Sometimes, “we need to think about our town,” Edgerly said Wednesday.
