So, Phil Nadeau, chairman of the Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee, believes ridership is up in those purple buses (story, June 15).

Will we now see two people on each bus instead of one?

As friends and I sit at an Auburn restaurant in the morning, we see three buses in 45 minutes go to Barker Mill Arms — one person in one bus, the other two buses empty. As the buses leave there, we just might see three people riding.

Why city officials put up with that is a puzzle. Minivans would serve the need. Why are they wasting the taxpayers’ money? Why doesn’t someone do something about that great waste?

I am sure the fares do not pay the drivers’ wages.
