LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen will be able to bring back all 12 articles that were defeated at the polls on June 12, if they want, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Thursday.
She checked with legal counsel and was told that because the town has no charter, selectmen could bring back whatever they wanted, she said.
Selectmen will discuss the matter at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, at the Town Office.
A couple of residents previously requested selectmen bring back all of the defeated articles. Selectmen requested Flagg check with the Maine Municipal Association to find out what could come back and what could not.
The board also may bring back the articles during another referendum at the polls or a public town meeting.
Residents did vote to allow the town to operate on the current budget until a new budget is approved, she said, which gives the town time to set up another election.
Flagg said her thoughts are that there is not going to be a lot of people around in July to come in and vote. A referendum at the polls may be best, she said, but it is up to selectmen.
“It is all about the people,” she said, and whether they come out to vote.
Among the articles rejected in the proposed $2.3 million municipal budget were administration, code enforcement, public works and requested donations.
Flagg has added an agenda item to “express thoughts and prayers” for a locally wounded veteran.
Military policewoman Sgt. Helaina Lake, a Livermore Falls High School graduate, was seriously injured in a suicide-bombing attack on June 21 in Afghanistan. She is recovering at a military hospital in Maryland.
Flagg’s youngest son, Lyle, is also serving in the military overseas.
In other business, Flagg said she will discuss the need for a shed at the Town Office for the town’s custodian to store equipment.
Currently the snowblower is kept at the wastewater treatment plant, so the custodian has to go get it with a truck. The shed could be used for the snowblower, gardening equipment, hoses and other items, Flagg said.
