JAY — Regional School Unit 73 directors voted unanimously Thursday in two separate votes to appoint Steve Leunig and Gilbert Eaton as interim principals of Spruce Mountain High School south and north campuses, respectively.

The decision came after more than an hour in executive session to meet with each of them individually.

It will be Eaton’s fourth year as interim principal with two of those years as interim principal of Jay High School and one as interim principal at the north campus in Jay.

It will be Leunig’s second year as interim principal at the south campus in Livermore Falls.

The men will each be paid $79,931.25 for 220 days in 2012-13. Neither will receive health or dental insurance benefits.

In other business, the board voted to adopt the newly proposed $18.73 million budget for 2012-13 to go before voters in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls in July.

RSU 73 directors approved the reduction of $79,938 from the failed $18.8 million budget. Voters shot down the latter budget on June 12.

The new proposal will go before voters in a districtwide meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the Spruce Mountain Middle School cafeteria in Jay. The amount decided at that meeting will  go to voters at the polls in all three towns for validation Tuesday, July 24.

The $18.73 million proposal is a 1.8 percent increase, or $330,589 more than the current $18.4 million budget.
