FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington’s Fitness and Recreation Center has announced the outdoor recreation activities being offered this summer through its Mainely Outdoors program.

The program creates opportunities for individuals and groups to participate in all types of outdoor adventure activities, clinics, workshops and excursions. The aim is to promote fitness, get people active, expose individuals to new recreation opportunities and take advantage of the abundant natural resources in the area. Activities are open to both the campus and members of the public.

Whitewater-kayaking clinic, July 30 and Aug. 1, 6, 8. Guided flat-water/river kayaking excursions on Clearwater Lake, July 10 and Aug. 28; Wilson Lake, July 26; Bear Pond, Aug 2; North Pond, Aug. 14, 30; and Porter Lake, Aug. 16.

Intro to canoeing, July 17, 24 and Aug. 9; Androscoggin River: July 21.

Overnight canoe/kayak camping on Porter Lake Island, Aug. 3-4.

Whitewater rafting Kennebec River, Aug. 12.

Biking trips: Flint Woods, July 12; Whistle Stop Rail Trail in Farmington, Aug. 21; Carrabassett River Rail Trail, Aug. 7; Androscoggin River Trail, July 24.

Hiking: Tumbledown, July 14; Poplar Falls, July 28; Appalachian Trail Club, Aug. 18.

Geocaching: July 9, 23 and Aug. 9, 23.

Scuba diving: July 16 and Aug. 14.

Wilderness and remote first aid course: July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and Aug. 1.

Rental of outdoor recreation related equipment is available at reasonable rates on a first come first served basis.
