NEWPORT, Maine — A Lewiston man was injured Saturday afternoon when a Mechanic Falls woman lost control of her 1998 Chevrolet sedan after it lost a wheel and struck a guardrail on Interstate 95.
Sheila Herrick, 49, was traveling north on Interstate 95 shortly after noon when her car began to shake, according to Maine State Trooper Keith Barton. The wheel came off her right rear axle and she lost control at mile marker 158 near the Newport exit, he said.
She was not injured.
A passenger, John Ward, 52, was transported to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield with injuries that were not life-threatening, the trooper said. Another passenger, Lucille Ward, 58, of Lewiston also was not injured.
Herrick’s car was demolished, Barton said.
Information about the extent of the Lewiston man’s injuries was not immediately available Saturday evening.
