AUBURN — Advanced Dentistry used outstanding pitching, great defense and timely hitting in winning the Auburn Suburban Babe Ruth Championship.
In the semifinal game Advanced Dentistry outlasted East Auburn, 6-2, in a game that featured solid starting pitching on both sides.
AD got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Drew Lashua singled. One out later Evan Raymond blasted a long double to the gap to put runners on second and third. Kyle Romero then stepped to the plate and singled home both runners to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
East Auburn answered with a lone run in the top of third. Brandon Knapp singled and later went to third on a throwing error. One out later Knapp scored on a wild pitch.
Advanced scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Bo Norcross led off the inning with a single and then Noah Yarnevich put down a perfect bunt that put runners on first and second. Michael Hammond doubled both runners home and later scored on a Raymond single to make the score 5-1.
AD’s starting pitcher Raymond and EA’s starting pitcher then settled down to limit each team to only one more run the rest of the way. Hammond came in to pitch shut relief for AD to earn the save. The victory put Advanced Dentistry into the championship game against Mac’s Grill.
In the championship, Advanced Dentistry got four shutout innings from starting pitcher Evan Raymond and another scoreless frame from Michael Hammond in blanking Mac’s Grill, 10-0, in a 5-inning game.
After neither team scored in the first inning, Advanced Dentistry came out swinging in the bottom on the second, scoring nine runs on eight hits and four walks. Drew Lashua delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded to get things going and then was followed by RBI singles from Raymond, Kyle Romero, Tyler Blanchard,Noah Yarnevich, Jean-David Hurd and Brandon Case.
Raymond and Hammond allowed only two hits on the day while striking out eight on their way to the championship.
In the semifinals, No. 2 seed Mac’s Grill beat No. 3 Ninety-Nine Restaurant, 4-3.
Mac’s jumpped out early with three runs in the first on two errors and a RBI base hit by Seth Sterling. Ninety-Nine got two in the fourth on an RBI base hit by Matt Keaney and Lew Jensen.
In the sixth, 99 tied it with an RBI base hit by Lew Jensen, only to see Jack Coyne get the winning RBI on a squeeze play in the bottom of the inning.
Brian Crane got the win on the mound, going all seven innings and striking out 15 batters. Jensen got the loss despite going the route, striking out eight.
ASLL Minors
Dillingham and Son got a terrific pitching performance from Eli Fournier as he struck out six and only allowed two runners to reach base in a 22-0 win over M+P Auto in the final game of the season.
Fournier also had two hits, including a double, to lead the Dillingham attack. Dillingham got multiple RBIs from Tiger Hopkins, George Romano, Nate McBride and Daniel Cifelli. Fournier’s stellar pitching performance was backed by great defense from Luke Josephson and Bryson Dumais.
M+P got two hits from Alec Beaudoin and another from Chase Martin. M+P’s Liam Flynn made a tremendous catch in the outfield to rob an extra-base hit in the first inning.
