AUBURN — Dorothy F. Cole, 92, formerly of Lyndon Street in Auburn, passed away peacefully at Clover Manor on Monday, July 2.
She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Malden, Mass., the daughter of William A.F. and Wilhelmenia (Fraser) Fyfe and married Clarence I. Cole on July 26, 1940, who passed away Dec. 1, 2011.
She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1937, and attended the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. She was a buyer of millinery and sportswear at the former B. Peck Co., of Lewiston. As a member of the United Methodist Church of Auburn for more than 70 years, she served as financial secretary, superintendent of the church school, and was active in many organizations.
She was a corporator of Central Maine Medical Center, the Auburn Public Library, and a former director of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, and Lewiston-Auburn Children’s Home. She was also a member of the YWCA, and a former member of Auburn Art Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Marcia C. Nowell and her husband, Clayton, of Hancock; two brothers, Donald E. Fyfe and Philip Fyfe, both of Auburn; a grandson, Christopher Nowell and wife, Melissa; and two great-grandsons, McKeon Finn Nowell and Cole Clayton Nowell.
She was predeceased by her husband of more than 70 years, Clarence I. Cole; as well as three brothers, William A. Fyfe, Leonard M. Fyfe and Gordon F. Fyfe.
