WINTHROP — Drew Stratton smacked a double and two singles to push Winthrop past Turner, 8-5, in the Apple Valley Babe Ruth championship game.

Dakota Carter and Mario Meucci each singled for Winthrop (12-3). Matt Sekarak was the winning pitcher.

Nate Coombs notched two singles and a double for Turner (11-3). Brandon Labbe added a double and Marshall Weiss slapped a single.

ASLL 9-10 wins opener

The Auburn Suburban 9-10 all-stars won their first-round game in District 5 baseball playoff action on Saturday.

ASLL beat Hall Dale, 13-5, behind the strong pitching effort of Austin Brown and the bat of Rocky Cote, who went 4-for-5 in the winning effort.

Brown and Ben Cassidy added three hits apiece for Suburban. Giles Paradie, Storm Jipson and Marius Morneau also had multiple-hit games for the victors.
