The Maine Maniacs 13-U girls AAU State Basketball Champions are in Orlando, Fla., and will be competing in the National Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex beginning Wednesday, July 4.

The Maniacs, coached by Matt Hancock and Steve Howe, will begin pool play with a Wednesday game against the Metro Lady Celtics at 12:15 p.m. at Jostens Center in Orlando. On Thursday the Maniacs will compete against the Coastal Georgia Comets at 9:25 a.m. in Pool Play Game No. 2, followed by a 4:30 p.m. game against the Memphis Elite both at Wide World of Sports.

First and second place teams from the  pool will move on to the Championship Medal Round, while the third and fourth place teams from each pool will participate in the Shootout Tournament.

Team members are Spencer True and CeCe Hancock of Lake Region, Margaret Hatch of Greely, Ashley Howe of Thornton Academy, Dom Lewis and Nia Irving of Lawrence, Montana Braxton of Cape Elizabeth, Caitlin Kane of Mt. Blue, Emily Jacques of Edward Little and Maddie Hasson of South Portland.

MTA states this weekend

PORTLAND — The 40th annual Maine Tennis Association Championships will be held Friday through Sunday, July 6 to 8, at Waynflete School Tennis Complex.

Competition will be held in Men’s and Women’s Singles and Doubles as well as in Men’s 35-and-over, 45-and-over and 55-and-over singles. The tournament is sanctioned as an outdoor major by the MTA. Large fields are anticipated.
