LEWISTON – SeniorsPlus, the area agency on aging, offers free (unless noted) classes for the older adult learner. The classes are designed to help people make informed choices about aging well, living independently and doing it all safely. Classes for July include the following.

Ten Signs of Dementia, 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 9. Instructor, Bill Kirkpatrick. Registration: Call the Alzheimer’s Association, 1-800-272-3900.

The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia, and Alzheimer’s Disease, noon to 2 p.m. Monday, July 9. Instructor: Bill Kirkpatrick. Registration same as above.

Summer Singing!, 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. Instructor, Mollyockett Chorus. We’ll listen, remember, maybe sing along (just a bit) with this group as they share songs of summer.

Bring your ‘communication partners.’ Borrow elements of sign language and visual gestural communication. Assistive Listening Devices will be available to use.

What’s Happening to My Body As It Ages?, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26. This month: Skin & Staying Safe in the Summer Heat. Instructor, Dr. Alan Verrill, CMMC, hospitalist. Learn what happens to the skin as it ages, and why seniors are at-risk from the summer heat.

Nutrition: Do I Need the Same Foods at 70 that I Did at 40?, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 27. Instructor, Dona Forke, nutritionist, Hannaford Bros. Learn about nutritionally dense foods, why things don’t taste the same and if medications make a difference.
