AUBURN — Sophie B. Samaklis, 91, formerly of Lewiston, died Wednesday, June 27, at the Clover Manor, where she had been a resident since November 2011.

She was born in Lewiston, July 9, 1920, the daughter of Antanas and Sophie Donkus Bartasius. She was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1939.

In November 1953, she married Charles Samaklis, and they made their home in Lewiston. Mr. Samaklis passed away in 1988.

A member of the former St. Patrick’s Parish and the Telephone Pioneers, she worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone for more than 30 years.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Samaklis of Ontario, Calif.; a daughter, Lynn Samaklis of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; and a brother, Frank Bartasius of East Poland.
