LEWISTON — Hammond Lumber powered through Dube Gravel for an 11-7 win to capture the South Lewiston/New Auburn Little League title.

Jeremy Madore struck out the side to start the first inning and set the tone early. Madore struck out 12 batters over five innings. He also scored the initial run of the game in the first inning.

Dube Gravel answered by taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the second inning on a single from Seth VanDeursen.

In the third inning Hammond answered back with two more runs to bring the score to 3-2. Madore’s double set the stage for a two-run single from Garrett Poussard.

Dube fought back again with four more runs in the fourth. Key hits were a single by Gordon Beckwith and a double from Colby Desjardins.

Madore delivered the big blast with a grand slam well out of the South Lewiston Little League field in the top of the fifth. The hit drove the crowd to its feet and put Hammond up for good.

Colin Thistlewait got the save for Hammond in the sixth inning. He gave up one run but struck out the final batter to seal Hammond’s seventh title in eight years.

Championship team members for Hammond Lumber included Jeremy Madore, Jacob Strout, Garrett Poussard, Cooper Millett, Josh Kouhanic, Cole Pringle, Otis Caron, DaSean Calder, Damion Calder, Andrew Lewis, Nathan Lyons, Owen Weatherall and Colin Thistlewait. Hammond’s head coach is Eric Worster, assisted by Nathan Lewis, Elijah Colgan and Rob Lyons.

ASLL 9-10 reaches district title game

HALLOWELL — The Auburn Suburban Little League 9-nd 10-year-old all-stars advanced to the District 5 championship game by defeating Dirigo 8-5 in a nailbiter that required two extra innings of play.

Ben Cassidy picked up the mound win, hurling four soreness innings in relief of starter Giles Paradie. Jake Arel retired the final two batters in the bottom of the eighth inning to preserve the victory.

Cassidy worked out of tight jams in the fifth, sixth, and seventh by striking out the final two batters in the fifth and the final batter in both the sixth and seventh.

Auburn was led offensively by Rocky Cote, who had four hits and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Arel had three hits for the winners. Austin Brown, Anson Perry and Storm Jipson each had two hits for Auburn. Auburn plays Saturday in Vassalboro for the district title.
