All business cares will be thrown aside by Lewiston merchants on Wednesday, July 10, when it is proposed to hold the biggest outing in their history. The stores will be closed from Tuesday night through Thursday morning. Special cars will leave the head of Lisbon Street at 9 o’clock in the morning for Casco Castle, Freeport, where the party will enjoy the most elaborate and luscious clambakes ever devoured. There will be all kinds of sports, including a baseball game. In the afternoon will come a joint meeting of the committees of five appointed by the Merchants’ association and board of trade to form a chamber of commerce.

The council has been holding off on an order to tear down the building while the owner tries to begin major rebuilding. Roland G. Miller, director of the Department of Community Development and Planning, said the owner puts plywood across windows and doors to secure the building after the workers leave, but that the wood is often gone when they return the next day.
