PENSACOLA, Fla. — Donald W. Whitney, 62,died July 5. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give to me at that day; and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved his appearing.” Timothy 4:78.

Donald attended Gray-New Gloucester High School. He also served in the U.S. Army 173rd Airborne Brigade, the fifth year March 1969-February 1970. He was a Airborne Ranger in the US Army who served our country well in the Vietnam war and was very proud of that.

On Saturday May 13, 1972, Donald married Sandra Cayer and with their union they had two children, Michael and Tina Whitney and two grandchildren, Mikaela and Hunter Whitney. Donald and Sandra were married for 33 lovely years before she went home to be with the Lord Sept. 13, 2003.

Donald met Valerie Fulks on July 21, 2004 and they were married Oct. 22, 2004; they loved each other very much. Donald and Valerie enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles and walking on the beach.

Donald was club president of the Kiwanis Club of Gray, from 1985-’89. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 86 in Gray; he transferred his membership to Pensacola, Fla. when he moved there in 2001, to the American Legion Post No. 240. Donald served on the House Committee in 2009 for one term. Donald was also a member of the American Legion Rider Post  No. 240 and the Amvet Riders.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife Valerie (love you, Babe); his sister, Donna Whitney Madsenwho he loved so much, his little brother, Robert Whitney; his  princess, Tina Whitney, his boy, Michael Whitney and his wife, Jackie; two grandchildren, his other princess, Mikaela, and his number one baby boy, Hunter; sisters-in-laws, Charlene, Ros, Karen, Shirley (love you, Babe), Denise, (love you, Babe); three brothers-in-law, Harlot, Charles, and Daryl, who he loved very much,

Donnie was surrounded by his family when he passed away and we all said our “Goodbye” and he was well aware that we were there; he gave us a thumbs up and we will see him on the other side.Donnie left behind a host of friends who loved him, as well at the American Legion Post No. 240 and the Amvets.
