Doug Rafferty of the Maine Warden Service said the girl’s father was driving a speedboat pulling an inner tube when the boat hit a submerged rock inside an area marked with hazard buoys. The girl, Abby Mueller of Houston, Texas, flew over the front of the boat, which then drove over her. She was struck by the propeller.

One of her legs was severed above the ankle. The girl’s father, Robert Mueller, 44, was also injured in the crash and has been treated, Rafferty said. Lovell Fire Chief Tom McKenzie said Robert Mueller hit his head on the windshield.

The girl was flown via LifeFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The boat held a 10-year-old boy in the rear of the boat, three teenage girls sitting in the bow, one 13 and two 15-year-olds, and an adult driver, and a 13-year-old boy riding a tube behind the boat. Only the girl and her father were injured, Rafferty said.

According to a release from the Maine Warden Service, the boat was then driven to a dock at Quisisana Resort on Pleasant Point Road in Middle Bay, taking on water as a damaged drive shaft guide bracket allowed water to enter the hull.

Robert Mueller suffered minor injuries. He is the father of three children who were involved. The other two are family cousins from Woodstock, Conn. They had been staying at a family camp on the lake.

Officials do not believe alcohol was involved.

Game Warden Sergeant Dave Chabot, and Wardens Neal Wykes and Kris Barboza investigated the crash. The Kezar Lake Marina, Stoneham Rescue, Fryeburg Rescue, Lovell Fire & Rescue, and LifeFlight assisted.
