AUBURN — The Chicks With Sticks steel drummers will perform at Auburn’s Festival Plaza at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18,  weather-permitting. The one-hour performance precedes the Auburn Community Concert Band’s free, weekly summer concert series.

Chicks With Sticks, an offshoot of the Tinpanic Steel Band, is a four-women combo that has performed throughout central and coastal Maine for five years. The quartet recently made its debut at the New England Steel Drum Festival at Sugarloaf USA.

The band’s repertoire ranges from calypso and traditional island tunes to Jimmy Buffet and pop selections.

Starting at 7 p.m., the Auburn Community Concert Band will present “Forgotten But Unforgettable,” the sixth program in its 11-week concert series. The 75-minute concert features nostalgic tunes by such musical artists as Louis Armstrong and Henry Mancini, plus hit songs by the The Mamas & the Papas, Tijuana Brass  and other groups.

Attendees are urged to bring a lawn chair. If it rains, the band concert will be moved into the ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn at Great Falls Plaza. For more information, call the Auburn Recreation Department at 333-6601, ext. 2108, or visit www.auburncommunityband.com.
