SOUTH PARIS — Cecile Toutain Ebert of Bethel, died peacefully in her sleep at Market Square Health Care Center in South Paris, in the early morning hours on July 10.

She was born at her home on Blake Street in Lewiston to Arthur and Amanda Toutain on May 3, 1911. She married the love of her life and favorite dance partner, Frederick Ebert, April 16, 1933. They married on a beautiful Easter Sunday at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Lewiston. Their first child, Frederick Richard Ebert was born on Dec. 24, 1942, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Her husband was serving in the Navy back then allowing her and her son to establish a close bond by spending time on such activities as sledding, swimming, going to the movies together and interacting with her parents.

Not long after his return from the war, Fred and Cecile gave birth to their second child, Linda Dale Ebert, July 7, 1949, also at St. Mary’s Hospital. After Linda was born, the family made their home at 22 Wakefield St. in Lewiston, a home they cherished for more than 30 years. Cecile added to the family’s income by working at Sharlaine’s in Auburn, a job she thoroughly enjoyed for about 25 years.

Cecile shared a close relationship with her son Fred and his wife, the former Janet Gill of Jay, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1968. She looked forward to their yearly visits on Christmas Day when she always made it a special event by cooking some of their favorite foods. It was a great sadness to her when her son died on April 12, 2005.

Cecile’s daughter, Linda, married Michael Gilbert at St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston, June 19, 1971. They moved to Bethel, where they both became teachers and bought a home at 43 Mayville Road in Bethel, where they continue to reside.

On Jan. 7, 1978, Cecile was blessed by the birth of a granddaughter, Amanda Lee Gilbert, daughter of Mike and Linda. She considered her a special gift and the two of them became kindred spirits.

In 1989, Cecile moved into the home of Mike, Linda, and Amanda in Bethel. Living under the same roof, afforded Cecile’s granddaughter the time to interact with her grandmother on a daily basis and learn from her what it is was like to live back when Cecile was just a child.

Michael, Linda, Amanda, and Cecile shared a wonderful life together at their home on Mayville Road. Quality time was spent talking around the dinner table and the memories they shared will remain in their hearts forever.

Just when Cecile thought it was impossible to love anyone the way she did Amanda, along came a wonderful young man named Christopher Snow, Amanda’s husband. When they married, Cecile felt as if she gained a grandson to talk with and love. Christopher’s feelings were mutual and together he and Amanda always made time to visit with her in Bethel and later on at Market Square regardless of their hectic schedules in the medical profession.
