I am compelled to write in support of the town manager and Board of Selectmen in the town of Livermore Falls with regard to the special town meeting being held July 16. Twelve failed articles at the polls will be brought to the voters in an open meeting to discuss and be voted on again.

I will not argue with the vocal minority here, but I will speak for the silent majority.

Livermore Falls has seen an amazing turnaround in the past several years. Many other towns are not so lucky. Our downtown is in the midst of a prosperous revitalization. More than $7 million has recently been invested there. Another $2 million project is in the works.

Eight million dollars have been spent upgrading Route 4 and its aging infrastructure. The difficult consolidation of school systems has been achieved to help grow this area economically. Without new residents and businesses, it will not happen. Thirty million dollars of valuation vanished when the mill closed. Through all of this, our mil rate has not increased?

Livermore Falls, like many communities, struggles to maintain services we all enjoy and have come to expect. As a resident, former selectman, community volunteer, and payer of multiple tax bills, I invite all registered voters in the town to attend the special meeting.

Town leaders have done an excellent job keeping the town’s best interests in mind. I hope that those who agree will attend this very important meeting. With everyone’s help, Livermore Falls is better.
