LOVELL — The Mollyockett Chorus will bring its new show, “Sentimental Journey,” a combination of songs and humor, to the Brick Church for the Performing Arts on Thursday, July 26.

The chorus sings a mix of upbeat songs, ballads and popular show tunes in four-part a cappella harmony, often called barbershop-style. Its diverse programs often develop a humorous theme and even a full story plot, as in this year’s show.

The plot of “Sentimental Journey” focuses on a retired singer who goes missing from her retirement home to take a sentimental journey of all the places where she sang while an active member of the Sweet Adelines. As her friends pursue her from Hawaii to Maine, they sing songs from states across the country.

A group of singing women from Oxford, Androscoggin and Cumberland counties,  the Mollyockett Chorus began in Norway with a core group of about nine  women. In 1996, they obtained their charter with Sweet Adelines International, the world’s largest nonprofit music-education association for women singers.

Since then, the chorus has performed all over the tri-county area. Members present shows and “sing-outs” in full costume and make-up and also do choreo routines. They produce shows of their own and have sung with other choruses at Deertrees Theater in Harrison, All-Souls Chapel at Poland Spring and Sawyer Foundation in Greene. The chorus also sings regularly in nursing homes and churches, and for veterans’ organizations.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 925-1500 or visit www.lovellbrickchurch.org.
