It’s time for city officials in Lewiston to look at Pond Road again for its safety issues.
My husband and I walk this road every day for our health, but it is fast becoming a risk to our lives. Recently, we had two cars look as if they were going to hit us. The drivers were adjusting something on the seat or texting, we are not sure. The next day, a man in a truck veered toward us as he was talking on the phone.
In all three cases, the drivers were speeding well past the 25-mile-per-hour speed limit.
That speed limit has become a joke. When a driver actually goes 25 mph, he is passed, despite the double line, or subjected to road rage.
Traffic has changed with the closing of Farwell Street, making Pond Road very busy. Trying to drive into our driveway, I have been beeped at and gotten the one-finger gesture.
If I keep the 25 mph speed limit, it is like a angry mob of divers behind me.
The road has many walkers — 30 or more a day — and a ton of children. I hope the city acts before a child or walker is hurt or killed.
