TURNER — Selectmen have approved the financial statements for the fiscal year that ended June 30, as presented by recently appointed Town Manager Scott LaFlamme.

These would have been reviewed earlier, however, the meeting on the first Monday in July was canceled because of the Fourth of July activities.

Except for a few special accounts, all funds remaining at the end of the fiscal year are transferred to the General Fund. Selectmen approved $21,462 to be carried over. This included $660 for Administration, $6,820 for the Rescue Department, $9,039 for the Public Works Department and $4,943 for the Solid Waste Transfer Station. There are also reserve accounts for things such as fire apparatus.

In other business Monday, selectmen:

* Approved changing the Public Works Department crew’s hours from five eight-hour days to four 10-hour days. The change previously had been discussed, but selectmen decided to wait until the new position of Public Works director was filled before making the change. The recently appointed Public Works director, Jack Moultrie, recommended that the new hours be tried through the end of September.

* Accepted an $88,732 grant for capital improvement projects from the Department of Transportation.

* Accepted the bid of $19,276 from Northland True Value Hardware for culverts needed by the Public Works Department.
