LISBON – On May 3, the Lisbon School Department honored their community partners and volunteers for the assistance of 21,107 hours during the 2011-12 school year. The Green Ladle in Lewiston, a partner in education with Lisbon High School, assisted with culinary delights for the eighth annual night of celebration.

Monica Millhime, community resource coordinator for the district, welcomed more than 100 adult volunteers, staff and community members and introduced Superintendent of Schools, Richard Green.

Green hosted the event, assisted by Carlene Iverson, Lisbon Community School principal; Ryan Patrie, assistant principal; Ken Healey, Lisbon High School principal; and Zach Longyear, assistant principal/activities director.

The program of events acknowledged and thanked the efforts of community volunteers, staff members, community partners and stakeholders in education.

Assistance with the awarding of numerous door prizes was provided by LHS guidance counselor, Jean Dolan; district-wide director of student services, Heather Wilmot; and district-wide librarian, Katy Dodge.

“Since 2004, the Lisbon School Department has been aligned with the prestigious National Presidential Volunteer Service Award Program,” said Millhime. The program recognizes adult volunteers achieving over 100 hours of service. Recipients receive a letter from the President of the United States, an award certificate and a National Volunteer Service pin. Volunteers and community partners contributing up to 100 hours and partnership opportunities in Lisbon received a Lisbon School Department Certificate of Appreciation.

A standing ovation was given to Pamela Shane, for contributing 2166.5 hours of service to the Lisbon Schools and greater community.

The National Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Award for more than 500 hours was also presented to Trisha Thebeau, 1,014.5; Roxie Dobson, 999; Amy Austin, 948; and Candace Barrett, 500.

Silver award winners for contributing 250 to 499 hours: Christina Maney, 401.5; Marilyn Curtis, 354; Melvin Curtis, 354; Karen Whitney, 351; Angela Shambarger, 322.5; Kathi Yergin 321; Roland Grondin, 300; Maxine Shane, 300; Denise Morin, 261; Adam J. The show stopping event during the banquet was a DVD, “Marking a Milestone – A Kaleidoscope of Appreciation.” The presentation was produced by two Lisbon High School Class of 2012 and Interact Club students. Ryan Buzzell produced the snapshot in time with assistance from Adam Thebeau for music mixing. Photos were provided by Steve Sharp and Monica Millhime. The video highlighted the last eight years of volunteers working together and celebrating their accomplishments.

Certificates of appreciation were awarded to media partners Great Falls TV, Sun Journal, Times Record, Twin City Times, Turner Publishing, Lisbon Reporter, WCSH, WGME and WMTW. Community partnership certificates of appreciation were awarded to Flagship Cinema, Town of Lisbon, Lisbon Library, Lisbon Federal Credit Union, LCS PTO, PWS PAG, LHS PAG, Lisbon Music Boosters, Lisbon Athletic Boosters, Sam’s, Subway, Walmart, The Green Ladle, Hannaford, Solo Bistro, Topsham Grange, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lisbon Police Department and Lisbon Fire Department.

Restaurants and businesses were thanked for their support of gifts and certificates for the banquet.
