RUMFORD — Sen. John L. Patrick, D-Rumford, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the state Senate, representing District 14.

First elected to the Senate in 2010, Patrick served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives from 1999-2007. He is a member of the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee and the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee. He is also a member of Maine’s Citizens Trade Policy Commission.

“I would like to continue public service representing Western Maine people in the Legislature and I look forward to talking with voters as I go door to door,” Patrick said. “I have always believed that the knowledge gained talking with voters is my biggest asset.”

A journeyman mechanic for the NewPage Corp. for the last 32 years, Patrick is a former president of Local 900, now the United Steel Workers Union, and a past board member of the Maine AFL-CIO. He served four years as a board member of the St. Athanasius and St. John’s school, and three years on the SAD 43 board. He is a past member of the board of the River Valley Technology Center.

Patrick is a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is a member of the Maine Snowmobile Association, Rumford Polar Bears, Webb River Valley Sportsman’s Club, the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and a member of the St. Athanasius and St. John’s Church/Parish of the Holy Savior.

A 1972 graduate of Mexico High School, and lifelong resident of the River Valley, Patrick has been married to the former Claire M. Coulombe of Rumford for 35 years and has three adult children. He enjoys gardening and outdoor sports, including fishing, hunting and snowmobiling, and playing pool.
