Potluck picnic July 24

HEBRON — All members and friends of the Hebron Historical Society are invited to its annual potluck picnic on Tuesday, July 24, starting at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Society’s new home at 358 Paris Road.

Those attending are urged to bring a dish and lawn chairs. Entertainment will be furnished by member Darlene Glover and her singing group, “Four on a Match,” who will sing a selection of vintage mid-20th century vocal arrangements.

Weight loss surgery program

LEWISTON — Central Maine Bariatric Surgery will host an informational program about weight loss surgery on Aug. 1 and again on Aug. 20.

The presentation will feature bariatric surgeons and other members of the bariatric surgery program’s professional staff. They will provide a general overview of obesity and weight loss surgery options. The program will include a question and answer session.

The Aug. 1 live program will be held at Central Maine Medical Center and simultaneously videoconferenced to Topsham Family Medicine. The Aug. 20 program at CMMC will not be videoconferenced.

The live event at CMMC will be held in the Chairmen’s Rooms on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building. Preregistration is not required for the Lewiston event. Those wishing to register for the videoconference in Topsham should call Central Maine Bariatric Surgery at 795-5710.

The presentation begins at 6 p.m. and concludes about 8 p.m. Seating at the event is limited, so early registration is advised. There is no charge for participation.

Kora holding Teddy Bear Run

TURNER — On Aug. 4,Kora Shrine will host the first annual charity ride, Teddy Bear Run, Kare for Kids. This event will host motorcycle and car enthusiast at Twitchell’s airport in Turner for a ride-in day of fun, food and entertainment. The purpose of the ride-in is to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Admission will be a donation to the charity. All net proceeds from the day’s events will be donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Gates open at noon. Live music, food and vendors all day. Kora Shrine parade at 3 p.m., fireworks at 9.

SAT prep classes begin Aug. 5

LEWISTON — Maine Prep’s SAT prep course for Lewiston/Auburn area high school students will begin Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce office at KeyBank Plaza, 415 Lisbon St. Classes meet every Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. until Sept. 30.

The eight-session course, designed to teach students strategies to use in the math, writing and reading sections of the SAT, will prepare high school seniors for the October SAT and juniors for the PSAT.
