Not only the Auburn Fire Department but a great number of spectators were fooled Tuesday morning by a rather peculiar incident. At 10 minutes past nine the fire alarm at box 84, which is located at the corner of Goff and Grant streets, rang in. The fire department responded with its usual promptness but found no fire. The N.E. Telephone co. linemen were at work on the wires on Goff Street. One was driving a spike into the post and the first that they knew the fire trucks came tearing up the street. Even then, they did not know that the alarm had been rung in by the driving of the spike. It was as much a surprise to them as it was to the fire department.
