EUSTIS — Leo P. Pepin, 81, of Stratton died unexpectedly on July 18, in Eustis.
He was born July 31, 1930, in Notre-Dame-Des-Bois, Quebec, the son of Odilon J. and Odena (Lambert) Pepin. Leo was educated in Notre-Dame-Des-Bois schools. As a young man, he went right to work in the woods.
Not long after, he met his wife of 61 years, Lucille Desrochers, and in 1950 they were married in Woburn, Quebec. They started their family of three boys while he continued his work in the woods, eventually becoming self-employed as a lumberman.
He was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. He loved to hunt, fish and train retrievers. Leo did his own taxidermy work and had a large collection.
He loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren, with whom he took every opportunity to share the outdoors. He loved going snowmobiling, moose horn hunting, fishing on Aziscohos Lake, eating seafood and being part of family gatherings, most of which included many games of pool around his table in the basement.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Pepin; three sons, Claude and his wife, Donna, of Stratton, Luc and his wife, Candace, of Augusta and Richard and his wife, Sue, of Stratton; four grandchildren, Daniel of King Salmon, Alaska, Paul and his wife, Jamie, of Livermore, Renee of Leadville, Colo., and Rachael of Augusta; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many very special hunting and fishing friends.
Leo was predeceased by his two brothers, Charles Emile and Jean Paul.
