JAY — Regional School Unit 73 voters in three towns are slated to vote on a $18.7 million school budget from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Jay Community Building in Jay, Livermore Town Office and Livermore Falls Town Office.

The revised proposal for 2012-13 contains a 1.8 percent increase, or $330,589 more than the current $18.4 million budget.

It is the second time voters will consider a proposed budget after an $18.8 million budget failed at the polls by a 642-734 vote June 12.

RSU 73 directors approved the budget June 28, which included $79,938 in additional reductions. Voters approved the new budget during the first step of a two-step process July 10 in a districtwide meeting. The process Tuesday is a yes or no validation vote in referendum form at the polls.

According to information presented in June by Superintendent Robert Wall, the estimated tax increase on a home valued at $100,000 just for education is in Jay, $73.86 a year or $6.15 per month; in Livermore it is $22.90 for the year or $1.28 per month; in Livermore Falls, it is $15.30 per year or $1.90 per month.

If the new budget is approved by the board and voters, Jay would be responsible for $8.9 million for prekindergarten through grade 12 education. It is an increase of $814,637 over the current year.

Livermore would see its school tax assessment increase by $41,717 to $1.69 million. Livermore Falls would increase by $22,148 to $1.38 million.

Each town would also be responsible for an additional $40,000 for adult education.
