AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College is offering series of cooking classes open to the public. The first, Baking with Summer Fruit, will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Participants will bake two desserts featuring peak-of-season summer fruit, learning a variety of baking and pastry techniques along the way. This baking class is perfect for all skill levels.

Chef Perreault will take participants beyond just simple pies to other interesting baked items such as herb-infused shortbread, meringue-based Pavlova and a summertime favorite, buttermilk shortcake.

It’s important to get hands-on experience when baking so this class is structured for every participant to directly create the recipes. Once the baking techniques are understood, cooks can change up the fruit and flavors to their liking by using whatever are available and fresh.

Registration is open and ongoing, however space is limited. Deadline for registration is Aug. 2. For more information or to register, contact 755-5280 or 800-891-2002, opt. 7, email training@cmcc.edu or visit www.cmcc.edu/training.
