SUFFIELD, Conn. — Lewis W. Harmon, 91, a former resident of Livermore, most recently of Suffield, Conn., went home to the Lord on July 19.

Born to Thomas and Evelyn Winship Harmon on June 2, 1921, in Limestone, he was a 1939 graduate of Livermore Falls High School and apprenticed at Taylor Hall Welding in Worcester, Mass., before returning to the Record Foundry in Livermore Falls.

He married his sweetheart and best friend, Nellie Beckler, on Nov. 26, 1942.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in England as a mechanic in the medical corps of the 305th Station Hospital and came home to Livermore on Christmas Day 1945 to work and raise his family.

After trying his hand at farming, running his own dump truck/backhoe business and working as a mechanic at Berry Hill Orchards, he completed his employment years with International Paper, where he spent 20 years as a millwright servicing their fleet of forklifts and clamp trucks before retiring in 1986.

A longtime member of North Livermore Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, trustee and usher, he was also a Seventh Degree Granger, a Mason and a former member of the Livermore Planning Board.
