FARMINGTON — Regina Bourgault, 87, a former resident of Lavoie Street, Jay, passed away Saturday, July 21, at Edgewood Manor, where she had resided for the past 3 years.
She was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Saint-Pamphile, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Cleophas and Eugenie (Veilleux) Berube. She attended school in Saint Pamphile.
On July 16, 1941, in Saint-Pamphile, she married her husband of 48 years, Hermenegilde “Gilles” Bourgault, he passed away July 7, 1990. Together they worked the family farm and raised 15 children. Our Dad’s parents also lived with us, so if you ever saw the “Waltons” on TV, you have a good idea of what our life was like then.
In 1968, our parents decided they wanted to start a “new” life. They sold the family farm and moved to Jay. Us kids were so excited, we thought we had moved to New York City! Regina worked at Livermore Falls Shoe Shop for many years before retiring in 1977, and becoming a self-employed house cleaner.
She was an accomplished seamstress and also loved to knit and crochet. Her greatest love was cooking and visiting with her family and friends. She especially loved the grandchildren and when they were babies, would rock them for hours. She was the happiest when surrounded by people. It was no wonder then that when one of our friends dropped by unexpectedly, there was always one more place for them at the dinner table.
Regina was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay.
Regina is survived by her 13 children and their spouses, Vital and Martine, Luc and Claudette, Hervé and Marie-Josie, Cecile Gauvin, Hugette and Morrison O’Beng, Alberta and Yvon Couillard, Raynald and Ginette, Diane and Raymond Vanier, Suzanne and Rusty Riley, Claude and Jacinthe, Yvon and Mary Beth, Ginette, and Lisette and Barry Couture; 26 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jean-Louis and Marcelain; and two sisters, Therese Bolduc and Marie-Marte.
She was predeceased by two sons, Normand and Michel Bourgault; and one son-in-law, Bernard Gauvin.
Our family would like to thank the “angels” from Edgewood Manor and Beacon Hospice for surrounding our mom with their wings during her stay there. What you gave “us” can never be measured or repaid, but will be appreciated forever.
