‘Chess’ at City Theater

The classic rock opera “Chess” is being staged at City Theater in Biddeford through Aug 5. The two greatest chess masters — one American, one Russian — compete to be the best in the world. And yet their greatest contest is for the love of one woman. Amid political intrigue and international conspiracies, American Freddie Trumper and Russian Anatoly Sergievsk fight to take the queen in a romantic triangle. “Chess” features music by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus (“Mama Mia!”) and lyrics by Tim Rice (“Evita” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”). Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m.; Sunday performances at 2 p.m. For tickets, $20, call 282-0849 or visit www.city theater.org.
