OXFORD — Waterline installation on Pottle Road will begin next month, with Longchamps and Sons contracted to do the work.

Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday to forgo the bidding process and allow the Lisbon company to do the work.

Town Manager Michael Chammings said Longchamps and Sons’ bid for the waterline project to the Oxford Casino on Route 26 in the southern end of town was almost 20 percent lower than others. He recommended hiring Longchamps under its current contract with the town rather than putting the project out to bid.

The project will put an 8-inch water pipe down through the residential area of Pottle Road off Route 26 in the northern section of town.

The installation will coincide with road work, Chammings said, so that contractors can pave over the road after the pipes are installed.

Chammings said he is working on a bond anticipation note in order to pay Longchamps before the bond funding comes in.

At the town meeting in June, voters approved an article to let the town borrow around $1.7 million. Of that amount, $1.3 million would go to repay Bob Bahre for financing the casino waterline extension. The rest would be for the Pottle Road project.

Selectmen also authorized Chammings to start work on a draft ordinance to regulate traffic going through Rabbit Valley Road to reduce traffic from trucks and other through vehicles.
