Red Claws clinic to visit area

AUBURN/LISBON FALLS — The Maine Red Claws third annual summer clinic series will continue next week with stops in Farmington, Thomaston and Auburn before concluding the summer schedule in Lisbon Falls.

The 90-minute free clinics will be led by Red Claws point guard Kenny Hayes and former Red Claws forward Eugene Spates and will teach basketball fundamentals to children of all ages. The events will be held at select Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants.

All of the clinics will begin at 10 a.m. No preregistration is necessary. Further information can be found at www.maineredclaws.com.

Clinics will take place on Monday, July 30, at 636 Wilton Road, Farmington; Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 800 Minot Ave., Auburn; and Thursday, Aug. 2, at 583 Lisbon St., Lisbon Falls.

Box Car Drive-in Movie

AUBURN — Auburn Recreation will present the second annual Pat’s Pizza Box Car Drive-In Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 3, at the upper softball field, Pettengill Park. Free for all ages.

Enjoy a movie, “Angels in the Outfield,” under the stars and on the big screen. Kids are invited to create a homemade cardboard box car and enjoy the movie in style. Prizes will be given out for the best cars on the lot. Judging based on creativity, materials used and appearance.

Parents should bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc. as real vehicles will not be allowed on the field.

Car judging will begin at 7:45 p.m., with the movie to follow at 8. In case of rain, the show will be in the gym.

Monmouth alumni reunion

MONMOUTH — Monmouth Academy will hold the 113th annual Alumni Reunion on Saturday, Aug. 4, honoring the class of 1962.

The event will take place at the Monmouth Academy gym from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting with a social. A box lunch from Hurricanes will be served at noon, choices will be; turkey, chicken salad, ham & cheese and tuna salad sandwiches. The cost for alumni is $12, guests are $8 if not alumni.

Shaker Village demonstrations

NEW GLOUCESTER — A Lamb to Loom Demonstration, a wreath workshop and a guided nature hike will take place Saturday, Aug. 4, at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26.

Follow the multi-step, almost magical process of taking raw wool and making it into fine wool yarn and creations at a Lamb to Loom Demonstration beginning at 10 a.m. The demonstration is free and open to the public.

The next monthly guided nature hike will be held at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Explore the Shaker fields and woods, Sabbathday Lake, Aurelia’s Cascade, Loon’s Point and the Old County Road. Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children, free for under age 6.

Make an herbal wreath using fresh harvested Shaker garden herbs at a workshop to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Betsey-Ann Golon, Shaker Village herbalist, is the teacher. Fee is $40. Preregistration required.

CMCC public cooking classes

AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College is offering a series of cooking classes open to the public. Cool Summertime Desserts will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16.

Spend a fun evening making summer desserts that don’t require you to turn on the oven. Chef Perreault will share recipes and techniques for desserts designed to keep you cool and highlight summer flavors.

Guests will immerse themselves in sweet ingredients at this class, including working with gelatin (for panna cotta), learning how to temper eggs, playing with chocolate, whipping egg whites and heavy cream, making fruit mousses and more. Participants will also discover creative ways to plate and serve desserts. There will be a summer dessert buffet at the end of class.
