The new Workers Compensation law, LD 1913, was introduced into the Maine Legislature by the Republican Party and became law on April 18, 2012. Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello voted “yea” to this bill.

LD 1913 favors the employer and the Workers Compensation insurance provider.

The law eliminates the need for employers to continue paying benefits to an employee during the appeals process. It increases the amount of reviews and red tape an employee has to accomplish to continue receiving benefits. It establishes 10 years as the end date of benefit eligibility for permanently injured individuals with partial incapacity.

Sen. Snowe-Mello’s vote on the Workers Compensation law clearly illustrates a lack of caring about Maine workers and her bias toward businesses and insurance companies. Because she cares more about big businesses than Maine workers, I will not be voting for her to represent me in the Maine Senate on Nov. 6.
