RUMFORD — James Maxwell Burns Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at the Rumford Hospital, Friday, July 27. He was a lifelong resident of Mexico.
James was born in Rumford, Jan. 2, 1928, the son of J. Maxwell Burns and Marion (Welch) Burns. He attended Mexico schools and graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1946.
Jim served two years in the U.S. Navy. On Aug. 27, 1950, at the Rumford Franklin Street Methodist Church, he married Barbara J. Lloyd.
He retired from Boise Cascade Paper Group, of Rumford, with 40 years of service as assistant foreman in the wood yard. He was a member of the 25-40 Year Club of Retired Boise Cascade employees.
Bud, as he was called, was a devoted husband. He was a special Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was an outdoorsman who loved nature. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in Maine, Alaska, Northern Quebec, Kentucky, and Tennessee. He especially enjoyed his hunting trips to Loon Lodge in Northern Maine with his sons.
Bud also enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling and spending time with his friends at his camp at Worthley Pond.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Lloyd Burns of Mexico; two sons, James M. Burns III and his wife, Linda, of Rumford and Scott L. Burns and his wife, Becky, of Russellville, Ky.; one daughter, Bonny L. Beausoleil and her husband, Patrick, of Calais, and St. Stephen, N.B., Canada.
He was known as “Grampy” and the “Old Grampy” to his grand and great-grandchildren, Kassie Elliott and her husband, Brandon, of Dixfield, Linnea Burns of Rumford, Brent Hinton and his wife, Amy and children, Jordan, Abagayle and Brady Hinton of Lewisburg, Ky., Dana Street and her husband, Trevor and children, Joshua, Jacob, Devan and his wife, Yesenra and son, Alexander of Louisville, Ky., Kaylee Disher and her husband, Brian, Aimee Beausoleil and her son, Tanner, of St. Stephen, N.B., Canada; and several fond nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by his father and mother; and brothers, Richard Burns of Ocean City, Md., and Gerald Burns of Gray.
